Brighton was going off today. And for the first time for months it felt
like we'd got our 'normal' wind conditions back.
The wind kicked in early and I was out just after lunch on my freestyle
board with a 5.7. What a great, lively board that new JP 101 is!
As the tide pushed in the wind picked up so I changed down to my 5.2 on the
Evo wave board. Could have been on a 4.7 at times! I'm back in love with
that tiny board too.
Most of the south coast goes flat at this time of year but Brighton always
get waves with any wind. I had some brilliant wave riding for about three
hours and some mid-tide sets were big enough to spit me onto the shingle a
couple of times. The beach lifeguard tried to tell me off for landing in
the swimming area, despite there being no-one in the water! (The local
council still want to ban us from many Brighton beaches, but the law has
yet to be changed).
Launching also got hairy as the tide pushed in – with the sort of
shorebreak we've not seen for some time. No damage though!
In all a great marathon of five or more hours on the water.
I only packed up when it went high-tide-lumpy.
We definitely need more days like these!
